I'm looking for these. The shrub is native to Texas and usually grows wild. The leaves are pointy(resembling holly but larger). The blossoms are yellow in very early spring. The berries are close to the stem and are red when ripe. Usually May/June. Has been referred to as Algerita.

I have a Wild Plum thicket in mind to harvest in a few weeks. But if anyone knows of others that are easily accessed I'd appreciate the location.

Well, let's hope on our bikes and go check it out. Wayland is a nice ride. I can strap a bucket on my bike!

If you go, take a sheet to put under the bushes then shake the berries off. It's tuff to get enough to make jelly. While you're gathering, don't forget to watch out for rattlesnakes! The love to lollygag under those bushes.

We can have all the Agarita berries we want this summer. The Wayland connection is in.

I spotted some blue black colored smooth berries(about the size of a BB) on a large bush @ Eastland Lake. Leaves are about 11/2" long. Know what they are?

I know what you're talking about, I think, but I don't know what they're called. They're not edible, tho.
